Key areas

The Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections)(England and Wales) Regulations 2007 require inspection of all air conditioning systems with rated outputs over 12 kW at intervals not greater than 5 years.  Similar regulations in Northern Ireland have the same requirements.

This training will explain how to undertake such inspections of simple and complex air conditioning systems and refers to CIBSE TM44: Inspection of Air Conditioning Systems: 2012 and the National Occupation Standard.

Individuals that would like to be able to produce Air Conditioning Inspection Reports for clients to be compliant with the Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations will need to apply to be on a Government approved register.  CIBSE Certification operate such a register and individuals with at least 2 years’ relevant experience in the last 5 years can apply through the APEL route to be certified and placed on the register. For details on how to apply go to the CIBSE Certification website.

In Scotland the requirements for inspection are set out in the Scottish Building Regulations.  They require inspection no less often than every 5 years.  Additional guidance, in the form of a short addendum to CIBSE TM44 details the regulations and the requirements specific to Scotland.
