The Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections)(England and Wales) Regulations 2007 require inspection of all air conditioning systems with rated outputs over 12 kW at intervals not greater than 5 years.  Similar regulations in Northern Ireland have the same requirements.

This training will explain how to undertake such inspections in complex buildings and refer to CIBSE TM44: Inspection of Air Conditioning Systems and the Occupational Standard. Those who have completed the training and are accredited by CIBSE will be able to undertake such inspections. Go to the CIBSE Energy Centre for details on how to apply to become accredited as an air conditioning inspector.

Those trained and subsequently accredited by CIBSE Certification will be able to carry out inspections of both complex and simple system.

In Scotland the requirements for inspection are set out in the Scottish Building Regulations.  They require inspection no less often than every 5 years.  Additional guidance, in the form of a short addendum to CIBSE TM44 details the regulations and the requirements specific to Scotland.

Certification through the Approval of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) route requires that all applicants have a minimum of 2 years out of the last 5 in building services and air conditioning designing, installing or maintenance.
